7th/ 8th grade supply list

Below is a list of materials that you will need to begin your upcoming school year. As other material are needed I will send home notice at least one week prior to when students will need to supply. If you have any questions please feel free to call me at home or email me. I will also be at school frequently come late July and early August.

Must Have:

Expandable file (8 or more sections)

12 inch ruler

Scissors

Post-it “flags”: these are those little tabs that are various colors

P.E. Clothes (no tank tops)

Consumable materials that will need to be replenished as the year progresses:

Binder paper- 8 ½ x 11, college rule (6-9 reams will be sufficient)

Quadrille paper: this is the graph paper used during math (1-2 reams)

6 spiral bound notebooks- single subject, college rule

Pencils- the more the better; pencils disappear quickly

Erasers

Glue- glue stick and/or liquid glue

Art supplies- crayons, markers, colored pencils, water colors (one set)

Kleenex- one per student to start off the year

12, 3-pronged folders- we use these for everything

Not necessary but helpful:

Book holder for math time

Assignment notebook: your own or one purchased from the school

Please bring all supplies to school on the first day. I would like to keep them in my storage room to keep for the students. This makes life easier for everyone and doesn’t require the students to have to remember exactly when something will be needed.

All written assignments are required to be typed in 12 point font and double spaced. It is critical in our times that students learn how to use a keyboard with ease. Students may have parent help on longer assignments. Please look into purchasing a typing program over the summer. Our trips to the computer lab are sporadic and 20 minutes every now and then will not be of that much assistance.

Literature books needing to be purchased for both 7th and 8th:

Books will be read in the order below.

Of Beetles and Angels by Mawi Asgedom (must have for the first day of school)

The Giver by Lois Lowry (October)

Messenger by Lois Lowry (November)

Gathering Blue by Lois Lowry (December)

The Watsons Go to Burmingham by Christopher Paul Curtis (January)

I am David by Anne Holm (February)

Far North by Will Hobbs (March)

8th grade will have a few additional books since they will be moving through the literature quicker than 7th grade. I will let you know what books will be needed at a later date.

Summer reading assignment for both 7th and 8th grades:

Read the book The Great Turkey Walk by Kathleen Karr and be ready to take a multiple choice, fill in the blank, and short answer essay test on the first day of school.

In addition, all 7th and 8th grade students will be required to read three books of choice over the summer. These books need to be logged and signed off by parents. Don’t look at this summer reading assignment as an obligation but an opportunity. The time to just sit and read becomes less and less as we get older. Take this assignment and enjoy some summer reading!
